"IN LOVING MEMORY OF ERIC WILLIAM LOMNICKI "

"Eric"
~March 9, 1973~February 3, 2001~
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Lomnicki

A FATHER'S STORY

For those of you that do not know,
my son, Eric passed away on Saturday
February 3, 2001, at the age of 27.

Eric, who like me, loved the outdoors
and was basically raised on Democrat Pointe,
Fire Island, N.Y. and on Shagwong Point,
Montauk, N.Y. He loved to fish and later
on in his short like he became an avid surfer.
He was like me with fishing poles;
he had a surfboard for everday of the week!

Then something happened slowly, unknowingly
before my eyes. Eric became an alcoholic and
progressed to being a drug abuser.
He was suffering from psychological problems
(Bipolar & OCD) and tried to medicate himself
to mask his feelings. He had been in and out
of rehab for the past three years. After a long
struggle with mental illness and drug problems,
Eric succumbed to a heart attack on Saturday.
The only consolation that I have is that he died
peacefully in his sleep.

It has been said that the worst thing to happen to a
parent is to bury one of your children. To see the
devastating effect on my wife and two beautiful
supportive daughters cannot be put into words.
The only words I can give to you is what actor
Carol O'Connor says, "DO anything you have to do
to get between your kids and drugs!"
We fought the hell of drug abuse on a
daily basis. You just don't want to go through
what my family is going through now.

The support that devoted family and friends have
given us has been overwhelming.
If you were at the wake you understand
the love that was in that room.
It will never be forgotten.

Eric is now free to ride God's waves with a
clear head and his smile that is unforgettable.
Surf's Up Eric! Rest in Peace.

Billy Lominicki

Eric's 3rd Anniversary was Feb. 3rd.
My daughter, Diana wrote this for the
newspaper In His Memory.

Eric William Lomnicki
3/9/73 - 2/3/01

You stood at the shoreline
courageously fighting the viscous
current that knocked you down.
Roll after rolling wave, each one
another fight. Sometimes you had
time to get up and enjoy the calm,
others you could barely get up on
one knee. But each time you got up
and fought. We remember the fight,
but most of all we remember the calm.

We love and miss you,
Mom, Dad, Diana, Lori, Rick and your new nephew, Jake.

Catch the biggest wave in life
Let your spirit soar
Riding on the biggest crest
Time to now explore

Beauty is before your eyes
Your spirit now set free
Moving in an endless flow
You glide on endlessly

Waves in life move constantly
You'll know just when to stand
All your dreams on ocean's crest
They're right now in your hand

Hold on to the glory of
The ocean's greatest gift
Power in the mighty force
That moves along so swift

You have courage to hang on
With glory in your stance
Standing tall you now recall
In life you take a chance

Catch that wave hold on now
You've made it through the roar
Landing like a gust of wind
You'll always reach the shore.
